Finding quality vegan baked goods used to be a pipe dream. But now, cookies, cakes and, yes, even croissants, are being expertly made by skilled bakers who can make plant-based pastries taste just as good as their traditional counterparts.

Flying Apron: For vegans, this popular fully plant-based bakery in West Seattle is like walking into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory: Everything in the pastry case is edible. Lazy Cow: ​​It may not look like much upon entry, but this sleepy vegan bakery in Fremont has some of the best baked goods in the city. They offer a signature croissant each month, which is always outstanding. Shown: the black sesame cream croissant and apple crumb cake. Cinnamon Works: This Pike Place Market vegan-friendly bakery has been a mainstay since 1983. There are lots of vegan goodies to choose from, including cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones and quick breads, but their vegan chocolate chip cookies (as big as your face!) are considered  even better than the original version they offer. 1536 Pike Pl; (206) 583-0085.

Macrina:  It shouldn’t be surprising that this celebrated Seattle stalwart turns out some of the best vegan pastries in the city, but it’s still always a nice treat to see so many plant-based options in their case. Piroshki on 3rd: With several vegan piroshki on the menu, like the Seattle Dog and potato rosemary, the breakfast scramble (shown), with Just Egg, Beyond spicy sausage, spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes, is one of the most popular. In addition to their namesake piroshki, there are also some vegan sweet treats, such as sticky buns and cakes. 710 3rd Ave; (206) 322-2820.

Flora Bakehouse: From focaccia to breakfast sandwiches, the Flora Bakehouse has something for every early morning or midday vegan craving, but it’s perhaps best known for its famous cinnamon rolls, popularized by its sibling Cafe Flora. The seasonal pumpkin whoopie pies, however, are also a standout. 1511 S Lucile St; (206) 762-0418.

Bake Shop: Not only is this one of the cooler Queen Anne spots to pop into for breakfast, lunch, or even wine and dessert, they are pretty vegan friendly to boot. The roasted veggie toast (shown), topped with seasonal veggies, spicy cashew sauce and dill, is a favorite with vegans and non-vegas alike, as is their miso buckwheat cookies and Yukon gold potato cinnamon rolls .
